There are lots of reasons why you should go out camping & hiking. Hiking is a great way to get in shape and stay in shape.

Camping is fun because you’re doing something that you don’t do every day in the great outdoors with lots of sunshine and fresh air.

Hiking camping has its’ challenges. You have got to be well prepared before you go for a long hiking camping trip.

Camping & hiking can take days or even weeks to complete and if you are not fit at the start of the trip, you will be fit by the end of it. It’s a good idea though to be fit before you go on a hiking camping adventure.

Besides training before you go on a hiking camping trip you also need to prepare both your hiking gear and camping equipment.

A checklist would greatly help to get a complete set of camping & hiking equipment and supplies. You do not want to leave anything out that could be potentially dangerous if you do.

Hiking in Yosemite National Park

If you are new, it is advisable that you go hiking camping with a group that has at least one experienced hiker. Someone who has gone through the hiking trail before is highly advisable. If possible join a group with a guide who has gone through the hiking trail a few times.

You need to have the right equipment when you go camping and hiking, more so than you’re just going camping because you will be far away from civilization and help could take a long time to reach you. It’s important to have some first aid kit and enough water. Some energy drinks and food will help a lot in getting you through the journey.

A cell phone with extra batteries should be part of your hiking equipment just in case of emergencies. A whistle should also be used in case a call for help is needed.

In an attempt to lighten up your load, you would probably need to reduce the amount of hiking gear or camping equipment that you bring along though some camping accessories justify the extra weight that you need to carry. The right backpack with a high tech weight distribution can make your backpack seem lighter.

A walking stick is a useful hiking equipment help you walk faster and with better efficiency which also doubles as a tent pole and can be used to fend off wild animals. The right hiking boots will save you from painful blisters so you can continue your journey until you reach the end.

You would also need to bring along some camping recipes to cook during breakfast. Preparing food for lunch in the morning would also be a good idea so you don’t stop too long and break your momentum.

Hiking camping is a sure way to lose weight because you will probably be hiking most of your waking hours and your food will be limited to camping food. Overall you will be a thinner and stronger person after your hiking camping trip. The feeling of completing the hiking camping trip is something to remember and the memories created will last a lifetime.

Nice hub. If your new to hiking then it's a good idea to take it easy at first. Like you mention above, go with a group. Many people start out thinking they can handle the weight of a tent strapped to a back, but if you don't break into it easy it can soon be come quite heavy. Also make sure you where a decent pair of boots.

I've hiked and camped separately but not together. It sounds a great way to keep fit, as not only do you get exercise, but it must be quite the workout carrying all the camping gear. I would really enjoy getting out into nature and seeing the wildlife and birds. Good hub, Thanks - I feel quite inspired to take a hiking camping trip.

This is great - more people need to get out in the countryside. It's fun, it's good exercise, and you get to see some beautiful parts of the country that you'd normall never discover.

Nothing beats a day or two in the backcountry. Great hub, glad to see somebody else encouraging people to get out and enjoy this beautiful planet that we're slowly destroying. Good advice to go in a group - NEVER go hiking alone, no matter how many times you've done the trail before and how many episodes of SurvivorMan you've memorized. When done properly (safely) hiking is not only a great physical exercise, but great for the spirit as well.

Me and my friends always go on Day Camping. Camping is a very exciting kind of adventure for me. It gives us an opportunity to experience wildlife and because it mostly consists outdoor activities, camping gives many physical benefits too.

I grew up hiking and camping, but moved to the city. This is something that I miss more than anything about living close to mountains.

Hello,

I haven't been camping for many years but I go day hiking and have a number of hiking weekends and a few hiking holidays each year if I can. This is my way of keeping fit, getting away from the hustle & bustle, seeing great scenery and breathing fresh air! I would recommend it to most people.

People new to hiking could start with some day hikes, progress on to weekend hiking and then on to hiking holidays (or hiking camping).

Regards,

Richard
