How To Choose a 2 Person Tent

A 2 person tent can be used as a solo tent or as a tent for 2 people. But not all two person tents are meant to sleep 2 people, more like for 2 corpses. It seems that tent manufacturers are too optimistic with the capacity of a tent.

Not all 2 person tents are that small though. Some can comfortable fit 2 adults and some can even cram in four. As a reference, a 2 man tent with 32 square feet of interior space or more is great.

Another thing you might want to consider is whether you can comfortably sit up inside the tent. It helps if you try getting inside the tent in an outdoor store then buy them online if you prefer.

The downside to a huge interior space is that they're usually heavier than ones with less space. Though there are some 2 person tents that have an interior space of more than 32 square feet and yet weigh less than 3 pounds.

Since sleeping space is a premium, it's great to have a vestibule where you can store your gear. A vestibule can also be used as a place to cook on a rainy day. Using a stove inside a tent is not a recommendation but if you really have to do it, make sure you have good ventilation.

Other than the ability to keep out the rain and wind, good ventilation is another important feature of a good 2 man tent. Even though a tent can keep you dry from the outside, if ventilation is poor you're likely to get from condensation on the inside.

If you're going to use the tent all year round, a 3-season tent would do quite well. A 4-season tent may not be necessary and they come with a lot of added weight. You might also consider a tent that is light colored because if you use a dark colored tent and there's a lot of sunshine, your tent can quickly turn into a sauna.

Ease of setup is another good feature to have for a 2 person tent. You don't want to mess around with the tent especially in bad weather. The tent should be quick and easy to set up.

The tent should also be easy to pack. Packing a tent is something that you don't want to spend too much time on.

Dual entrances is a convenient feature to have if you're going to use the tent for two people. You don't want to have to climb over your friend when you need to wake up in the middle of the night.
